How we create these solid glass art pieces....
To create the detailed image of the fish we apply layers of colored glass powders to a clear glass sheet, then heat it in a kiln until the powders melt and fuse into the sheet. This process is repeated many times, adding detail with each layer until the final image is acheived. A separate image is made for the background, using the same process. These images are then cast together to create a solid glass panel up to one inch thick. This combination of processes may take up to 200 hours to complete.
The panels are finally placed over a curved steel form and heated once more until they take the curved shape of the form, which allows them to stand on a table shelf or mantle. After the annealing, or cooling cycle has been completed, we sign, date and assign a registration number to the one-of-a-ind piece by etching it into the surface of the glass on the back of the piece.
Our Cast Glass Fish look best illuminated with reflected light and work well placed on a shelf or mantle. They are also used very well in custom metal frames for sconces and chandeliers. Custom work is always available.
