K Dahl Studios - Rick and Kathy Steckel – sharing knowledge and expertise
We enjoy working side by side with people and it is a delight to see our students find their own voice, expressing it in glass or fine art painting. We offer fundamentals and technical information in each class, as well as inspiration, encouragement and mentoring.
Together Rick and Kathy have over 50 years experience as full time artists. Kathy began teaching stained glass classes many years ago and she and Rick are fully versed in all methods of stained glass window and lamp construction. Kathy started fusing glass in the early 1980’s and is currently working with metal leaf and glass frit to create kiln-fired glass panels of realistic images and landscapes.
In 1990 the couple formed K Dahl Glass Studios in Crawford, Colorado. The main focus of the business until 2007 was the production of blown glass giftware and lighting. Stained glass window fabrication and glass fusing was brought to the forefront in 2007 as the couple closed their “hot shop” and moved away from town.
From 2001 to 2007 the couple owned and operated the Monart School of Art in Crawford and had an enrollment of nearly 80 students each week, from ages 4yrs old to adult. It was through teaching that Kathy came into the world of fine art. Painting in pastel and oil, Kathy enjoys plein air painting during the summer and still life in the winter months.
Rick, a master glass blower of 20 years, loves to bring people into his world of glass making. He is great at making people feel comfortable while handling 2000 degree molten glass on the end of a blow pipe. Rick has an intimate understanding of glass and it’s properties, whether molten, semi-molten or solid and can impart his knowledge in a most dynamic and affable way. His humor and wit is contagious.
Working with individuals and small groups in our studio just outside of Crawford, we offer a limited number of classes in glass and fine art. We can work with larger classes, retreats and workshops and we are willing to travel to your location.
