Background
Kathy has flourished as an artist since 1980 when she moved to Alaska to start her own glass studio after an apprenticeship in stained glass with Mary Matchell of Crystal Glass Studios in Carbondale, CO. In Alaska she designed and completed many Public Art projects, as well as glass commissions for numerous religious buildings and private homes. She moved to Sweden for a year of glass study in the small village of Transjo, in the heart of the Glass Kingdom. Kathy and her husband Rick started a hot glass blowing studio in Crawford Colorado in 1992. Kathy opened an art school to teach realistic drawing skills to children 4 years old and up from 2001 through 2006. Seeking a simpler life the couple sold the hot glass studio and the art school in 2006.
Rick, a master glass blower of 20 years, loves to bring people into his world of glass making. He is great at making people feel comfortable while handling 2000 degree molten glass on the end of a blow pipe. Rick has an intimate understanding of glass and it’s properties, whether molten, semi-molten or solid and can impart his knowledge in a most dynamic and affable way. His humor and wit is contagious.
Rick and Kathy continue to work in art glass for designers and metal fabricators around the country specializing in custom glass lighting, glass tile, and fused glass for door and window panels. Kathy paints in oil, pastel and in the medium of kiln formed glass.
